Bob Muglia On Windows and Nukes Published: May 9, 2007 by Alex Woodie
According to Bob Muglia, senior vice president of the Server and Tools division at Microsoft, Windows has made progress in another industry: nuclear energy.
"When I look back, a lot has changed," Muglia says. "I joined Microsoft 19 year ago. I was the first technical person on SQL Server way back when, in 1988, and the world was pretty different."
Back in 1988, Microsoft was struggling to be an operating system vendor with Windows 2.03, which wasn't much of a success. Fast forward to 2007, where Windows is, by far, the predominant operating system in the world. Windows (still) has a near monopoly the desktop, and possess a greater-than-50 percent share of the server market, too.
"Things have changed today where the Windows platform, and the solutions that are created on top of that really can solve any type of business problem that exists," Muglia says.
